My Little Zen Garden

A number of round and oval pebbles lie on wooden resonating bodies that contain speakers invisible to the viewer. The boxes are covered with thin sheets of cardboard, all of which have a circular section that partially exposes the stone underneath. The stones arch the sheets to different spaces of resonance, so that the whole arrangement seems to be set in a wave motion. The interplay of light and shadow modulation on the cardboard surfaces creates a situation in which the grinding sound of the stones becomes independent, wanders through the arrangement and thus puts the individual optical impression of each pebble into an audible reference. The curvature of the cardboard releases each sound in a different way.
