TwoToneForm
The principle of the two-tone shapes, of which there are seven various sizes, consists of rubbing the outer and inner edges of the round steel sheets aginst their circular cutouts in the centre. The resulting overtones of each steel sheet are recorded acoustically, processed compositionally and reproduced by a speaker seated in the inner circle. The seven steel sheets are installed flat above the floor and distributed throughout the room. Due to their different sizes each two-tone form has its own sound, which can be heard as it passes through the installation. The overall sound that spreads out in the room can thus be understood as the sum of its singular appearances. The optically flat arrangement of the work corresponds to the idea of a tonal beat. When all circles are permanently in operation, a movement in constant change is created. What can be heard is what can be seen: a transformation of the material forms into an acoustic event.
